What is the difference between yoga and pilates? Is what I hear from my clients from time to time. Since I mostly focus on weight-training and a variety of HIIT programs, some of my clients explore other types of fitness disciplines to compliment the strength training they’re already doing with me.
In addition to asking about the difference between yoga and pilates, they’re also curious about which one if right for them? What each one involves? What each one works? What kind benefits should one expect?
Difference Between Yoga and Pilates
Personally, yoga or pilates are not my thing. I’ll educate my clients on the difference between the two fitness approaches and share a few resources, but that’s where my interest stops. I know people who swear by yoga or pilates, some have even incorporated both into their fitness training. But for the most part it’s difficult to say which one someone new to both approaches will like better. The easy answer is to try both, but before you do you should learn a little more about each one.
In the infographic below created by the fine folks at Liquid Lifestyle will help newbies determine what they should try, at least as a starting point. It pins the two disciplines against one another, describes their histories and subtle differences between the two.
