Back in the gym, back on the blog

I’m back.

This blog has been quiet for way too long. I originally blogged to communicate and share my fitness knowledge with current and prospective personal training clients, however, in early 2016 I stopped taking on new clients. Other priorities in life took over and I decided not to renew my personal training and kettlebell instructor certifications.  But I still enjoy blogging and talking about fitness.

It’s hard getting back into it

I haven’t blogged here in a while and I don’t even know where to start.

I haven’t been to gym in about 5 weeks and I didn’t want to get up at 5am.  I usually do.

So, how do you motivate yourself to start something?

There are a couple of things that work for me:

  1. Just showing up. Getting up, getting ready, dressed and actually going to the gym is 90% of the battle. That’s the hardest part. If you can just show up and get there then you’re having a good start to the day.
  2. A lot of self-talk. When the alarm goes off at 5am as much as I try to jump out of the bed it’s nearly impossible. I lie awake for a few minutes, talking to myself. In my head, not out loud. Asking myself, do I really want to get up right now? What If sleep in for just one more minute, or start tomorrow?  But the answer is always if start right now and I’ll be ahead tomorrow. When it comes to building-in a habit and getting to the gym and working out isn’t something anyone can do for you. You can’t outsource it.  It’s all on you.
